PATIENT INFO: 7 year-old girl presenting with headaches
SUMMARY: A preoperative CT scan showed sellar and suprasellar calcification within a mass in the area. A preoperative MRI revealed a complex lesion in the sellar and suprasellar area with extension into the third ventricle and hydrocephalus. At time of surgery the tumor was dissected from the optic nerves and vessels in the Circle of Willis. The tumor had both solid and cystic components with abundant calcification within it. A complete removal was performed and intraoperative visualization did not reveal any residual tumor. A post-resection MR image in the OR demonstrated complete resection of tumor, decompression of the ventricles and no areas of restricted diffusion.
