BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Gregory Sorensen, MD – Executive Chairman, IMRIS, Deerfield Imaging Board of Directors
Dr. Sorensen is the Executive Chairman of the board of directors for IMRIS, the leader in image guided therapy solutions. As head of the board, Greg brings a deep understanding of technology, the biological basis of disease, the importance of measurable outcomes, and the environment of clinical practice. He was appointed to the board of directors in October 2015. He is a neuroradiologist, well known in the industry for his innovative research in medical imaging and for his expertise in clinical practice.
Before joining IMRIS, Greg served as the president and CEO of Siemens Healthcare North America. Prior to Siemens, he served as Professor of Radiology and Health Sciences & Technology at Harvard Medical School; a faculty member of the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology; and co-director of the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as a visiting Professor of Neuroradiology at Oxford University.
Leading up to his appointment with Siemens, Greg was a practicing neuroradiologist and active researcher with significant experience in clinical care, clinical trials, and translational research. His research and techniques are utilized by numerous centers throughout the world in phase II and III trials in cancer, stroke, and other illnesses. He holds a B.S. in biology from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calf., a M.S. in computer science from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass.
Andrew M. Flanagan – President and Chief Executive Officer
Andrew M. Flanagan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of IMRIS, Deerfield Imaging, and a member of the company’s board of directors. Andy oversees the global management of IMRIS and the success of the company’s leading intraoperative solutions. He leads a seasoned management team dedicated to creating and delivering patient-centricity, healthcare innovations that are safe, effective and proven to improve patient lives. Andy’s emphasis on customer success drives the company’s growth strategy.
Andy has an extensive and diverse leadership background having worked in senior roles for Siemens, SAP and Xerox. In addition, he founded an enterprise software company and led an early stage digital health company as the CEO. While at Siemens, Andy was the senior vice president of health services sales and business management within the customer solutions division of Siemens Healthcare, North America. In this role, he drove sales performance, services execution and customer satisfaction of the $1B+ Siemens healthcare software business in the United States.
Andy earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Management School of Business, Reno, Nev., and is pursuing his master’s in health informatics at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
Steven Swanson, MD – VP & CMO, Restorative Therapies Group, Medtronic
Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Restorative Therapies Group (RTG) and the Neuromodulation Business, Deerfield Imaging Board of Directors
Dr. Swanson joined Medtronic in January 2014 as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Restorative Therapies Group (RTG) and the Neuromodulation Business. In his new role, Steve has direct responsibility for the Medical Affairs and Medical Safety functions in Neuromodulation and participates in the strategic planning for the senior leadership team. He also provides oversight for RTG Medical Affairs and Safety and plays a role in key strategic growth initiatives including the Medtronic Neuroscience strategy as well as business development initiatives.
Prior to joining Medtronic, Dr. Swanson served as the President of the Neurosciences and Spine Clinical Service Line for Allina Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In that role, he provided both clinical and business oversight for all of neuroscience and spine services at Allina Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Along with clinical and administrative leaders, he led the development of multi-disciplinary clinical programs in Epilepsy, Neuro-oncology, Spine, and Neurovascular Care. In addition, he provided clinical project management for the new Bentson Family Foundation Neurological Intensive Care Unit at United Hospital in St. Paul and the first Nasseff Spine Center at WestHealth (Abbott Northwestern Hospital) in Plymouth, Minnesota. In 2012, Dr. Swanson was named as the first President of the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute at Allina Health.
Dr. Swanson’s clinical practice and leadership career included a general adult neurosurgical practice with the Michigan Brain and Spine Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan and more recently, the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Additionally, he served in a variety of medical staff and neurosurgical specialty society leadership roles throughout his 25 year clinical career.
Steve is a graduate of St. Olaf College with a B.A., Magna Cum Laude in Biology and Chemistry. He earned his MD degree at Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota and completed a residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Michigan, serving as Chief Resident in 1984-1985. Recently he completed the Healthcare MBA program at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
David Clark – Partner and General Counsel
David is a Partner and General Counsel at Deerfield who serves as a member of the Private Transactions team. David joined Deerfield in 2009 with more than 30 years’ experience as a lawyer and business executive. Prior to Deerfield, David spent 10 years as a transactional lawyer with the Charlotte, North Carolina, firm of Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, where he led the firm’s pharmaceutical practice. Previously, David was with United Dominion Industries, a diversified manufacturing company where he served as a legal, corporate development, and international operations officer. David received an A.B. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.
Steve Hochberg – Partner on the Private Transactions
As a Partner on the Private Transactions team at Deerfield, Steve joined Deerfield in 2013 to work on structured transactions in Deerfield’s Private Design Funds. Steve has been a founder and manager of healthcare companies for more than 20 years. Since 2004, Steve has managed Ascent Biomedical Ventures, a leading venture capital firm he co-founded focused on early stage investment and development of biomedical companies. Since 2011, Steve has been the Chairman of the Board of Continuum Health Partners until its merger with Mount Sinai in 2013, where he is the Senior Vice Chairman of the Mount Sinai Health System, a non-profit healthcare integrated delivery system in New York City with over $5 Billion in annual revenues. He graduated from the University of Michigan and earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
